Lawns Between the Brooks
Hydroseeding in Scarsdale takes place in a river valley. The village covers about 6.7 square miles inland within the Bronx River Valley, and the north and south Fox Meadow Brooks and Harts Brook feed the Bronx River in this stretch. Scarsdale is almost entirely residential, so most of our work is lawns, with a careful eye on where runoff goes.
Brooks in the back yard
Many Scarsdale lots back onto a brook, a pond or a wooded drainage way. When a lawn is renovated or a house is expanded, bare soil can wash into those channels in a single storm. We set silt fence between the work and the water, stabilize banks with an erosion control blanket, and hydroseed the rest of the yard on a well-prepped bed.
Keeping the river clean
Under a 2006 agreement, Scarsdale, White Plains, Mount Vernon and Greenburgh agreed to stop sewage discharges into the Bronx River. Sediment is the other pollutant that matters to a river like this. Covering bare soil quickly with hydromulch is one of the simplest ways to keep it out.
Parks next door
Scarsdale keeps about 715 acres of parks and recreation land open to the public. Yards beside parks and fields often share drainage with them. We grade so your lawn drains properly without pushing water onto public land.

Scarsdale Questions
A brook runs behind my yard. How do you keep soil out of it?
Silt fence goes between the work area and the brook first. The bank itself gets a blanket, and the lawn gets full hydromulch coverage.
Can you renovate a lawn without tearing out the beds?
Yes. We work around plantings and hardscape and only rework the turf areas.
Does the village require permits for regrading?
Larger regrading and drainage changes may need village review. We will tell you what we know, and you or your contractor confirm with the village.
How long until a renovated lawn looks finished?
It is green within a few weeks and usually looks full by the end of the first growing season.
Do you also overseed?
Yes. Aeration plus hydroseed overseeding is a good fit for lawns that are thin but not failing.
